BBBS Lone Star has an exciting new scholarship opportunity for the graduating class of 2022!


The Fletcher-Callegari Scholarship


The Fletcher-Callegari Scholarship is an $80,000 scholarship that will be awarded to ONE student!  


Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, room and board and other educational expenses. It is payable over the course of four years or completion of degree/program of study, whichever comes first. 


Who is Eligible?


  • Graduating high school seniors in the spring of 2022
  • Must currently be or have been in the past a Little/Mentee serviced by one of the regional offices of BBBS Lone Star: Greater Dallas, Greater Houston, Greater Tarrant, West Central Texas
  • Must be planning to enroll in higher education: four-year university or college, community college or professional training program no later than fall of 2022. 
  • Must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.

(If your high school uses a different scale you will need to submit the equivalent conversion)



To Apply:


1.     Complete the online application (click here to apply) and upload the following:

  • Required: a copy of your most recent high school transcript
  • Required (if applicable): a copy of any college transcript at which you have earned college credits
  •  Optional (encouraged): A copy of your highest ACT score or highest SAT scores from all sections. 
  • Optional (encouraged): A resume
  • A list of any extra-curricular activities in which you have participated during high school such as sports, clubs, church or community involvement, work, etc.
  • Leadership roles or recognitions in any of the above activities
  • A description of any honors or awards received in high school
  • Employment experience during high school years 



2.     Essays: Two (2) essays are required

  • Essay #1: Any essay that you have written for college admission or other scholarship consideration. This can be an essay written for the Common App, Apply Texas, or any college or scholarship to which you have applied.
  • Essay #2: We can learn many things from our successes and our failures. We are more interested in how these experiences have impacted you and how they have shaped you as a person rather than the nature of the experience itself. Please write about ONE (1) of the following topics:
  • Tell about a time when you fell short of reaching a goal. Why was this instance meaningful to you? How did you grow as a result of this experience? What lessons did you learn that will help you navigate future failures? 

OR

  • Tell about a time when you achieved a goal. Why was this instance meaningful to you? How did you grow as a result of this experience? What lessons did you learn that will help you reach future goals?



3.     Recommendations: You will need two (2) recommendations. 

  • One Recommender should be someone who is familiar with your academics, such as a teacher. 
  • One Recommender should be someone who is familiar with you outside of the academic environment. This could be a coach, a pastor, a mentor, your employer etc. 


Students will automatically be considered for the following BBBS Lone Star scholarships with a completed application. 


Helen Hill Scholarship

(Houston region only)


The Helen Hill Scholarship is a worth up to $6,000 payable over the course of four years or completion of degree/program of study, whichever comes first. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, room and board and other educational expenses. Eligibility restricted to those served by the Greater Houston office.


The A&B Scholarship


The A&B Scholarship is a one-time award of $2,000 payable at the beginning of the student’s first year of study. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, room and board and other educational expenses


Freeman Bullock Scholarship


The Freeman Bullock Scholarship is a one-time award of $1,500 payable at the beginning of the student’s first year of study. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, room and board and other educational expenses.
