Location: Abilene, TX
Position Summary:
To engage with corporations, community groups, churches, and other groups to present the BBBS mission and recruit volunteer mentors. This is a flexible, part-time (20 hours a week) position. The employee will report directly to the Community Development Director.
Essential Functions, Responsibilities, and Activities:
- Identify opportunities and groups that have the potential to produce volunteer mentors.
- Schedule and facilitate presentations to groups to encourage participants to submit applications.
- Ensure that all volunteers receive a strong selling proposition to move them from the point of first contact to active enrollment. This includes engaging the volunteer, determining the best way to get them involved, and making it easy for them to get started.
- Provide a sense of value and responsiveness to potential volunteers who call to inquire about being a Big.
- Provide basic program information, choices, and flexibility options to individuals who inquire about BBBS mentoring programs.
Education, Experience and other Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required, some college preferred.
- Must understand and be able to communicate BBBS mission, vision, and programs.
- Must be customer focused and friendly, being able to engage the individual as a volunteer.
- Must have a high level of organization and ability to schedule time well yet remain flexible enough to be available when an inquiry is received.
- Must have excellent communication skills, being able to answer questions and deliver information clearly and concisely, whether it occurs in person, over the telephone, via e-mail, etc.
- Must have excellent writing skills, being able to document clearly, accurately, and succinctly.
- Must have knowledge of MS Office Suite.
