Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accountant to join our Finance team. This position plays a vital role in supporting the financial operations of a multi-market nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships that help young people reach their full potential.

What You’ll Do:
Financial Management
- Process accounts payable transactions accurately and timely.
- Review and code expenses to the appropriate general ledger accounts.
- Record journal entries and maintain complete and accurate financial records.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and accounting procedures.
Vendor Payments
- Prepare vendor payments for weekly check runs.
- Verify approval requirements and obtain appropriate signatures.
- Submit positive pay files to banking institutions within established deadlines.
P-Card Administration
- Audit employee P-Card transactions for proper approvals and supporting documentation.
- Verify expense coding and enter data into accounting software.
- Ensure compliance with organizational expense policies.
Bank Activity & Cash Management
- Record deposits, reimbursements, fees, and other bank transactions.
- Support daily cash management activities and reporting.
Financial Reporting
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements.
- Ensure reports are accurate and completed according to established deadlines.
Reconciliations
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
- Research and resolve discrepancies.
- Monitor outstanding items and support month-end close processes.
Administrative Support
- Maintain organized financial files and records.
- Provide support during audits, reporting cycles, and special projects.
- Assist the Finance Department with administrative and operational needs as required.
Education, Experience, and Other Requirements
Preferred Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience.
- Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Technical Skills
- Experience with:
- Accounts payable
- Bank reconciliations
- Financial reporting
- Expense allocations
- Month-end close activities
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.
